Cap fuel price increases
According to the RACQ Annual Fuel Price Report, Brisbane and surrounding areas have the unenviable record of having the most expensive fuel of any city, for three years in a row.
After the Crisafulli LNP Government chose not to continue Labor’s cost-of-living relief measures like the $1000 electricity bill rebate and the 20% discount on car rego, local people are telling me that their household budgets are now even harder to balance.
That’s why Queensland Labor has introduced legislation into the Queensland Parliament to cap price increases at petrol stations and provide valuable cost of living relief.
Labor’s proposed fuel cap laws will require fuel retailers to provide their price for the following day by 2pm and to cap any increases at no more than five cents per litre. This eliminates volatile price swings and gives motorists the power to shop around for the cheapest fuel.
This system has previously been backed by Queensland’s peak motoring body, the RACQ, and works effectively in Western Australia.
In addition to this, Labor’s proposed legislation will also deliver a major win for public transport users by making it harder for the LNP to cut Labor’s world-leading 50 cent public transport fares. This is just another way that Labor is fighting for cost-of-living relief and doing everything we can to stop the LNP putting even more pressure on household budgets.
