FairPlay Vouchers Must Stay: Local Families Back Sport Support Scheme

MEDIA RELEASE
Mark Ryan MP – State Member for Morayfield

If there’s one thing that defines the Caboolture–Morayfield community, it’s sport. From weekend footy to netball training and backyard cricket, sport is more than a pastime—it’s part of who we are.

That’s why Mark Ryan MP is calling on the new State Government to protect and continue the expanded FairPlay voucher program, which has helped thousands of Queensland kids get into community sport.

Sport teaches our kids resilience, teamwork and belonging,” Mr Ryan said. “And thanks to Labor’s expansion of the FairPlay voucher program, more kids than ever before have been able to lace up their boots and get involved.”

Under the previous Labor Government, FairPlay vouchers were:

  • Increased from $150 to $200

  • Extended to cover every Queensland child aged 5 to 17

  • Expanded from 50,000 to 200,000 vouchers statewide

But with the LNP State Government’s first budget due this month, Mr Ryan says there is growing concern the expanded scheme could be at risk.

The FairPlay program is making sport accessible for families doing it tough,” Mr Ryan said. “But so far, the new government has not committed to keeping the expanded program in place.”

Over the past two months, Mr Ryan conducted an online community survey, inviting local families to share how FairPlay vouchers had supported their kids’ sporting journeys. The results were overwhelming.

Local parents told me that without FairPlay vouchers, they simply couldn’t afford to register their kids for sport. This isn’t just about recreation—this is about fairness, health, and opportunity.”

Mr Ryan is now urging the government to listen to the voices of families in Moreton Bay and across Queensland.

No child should be stuck on the sidelines because money is tight,” Mr Ryan said. “We fought hard to expand this program, and now we must fight just as hard to keep it.”

It’s time for the LNP Government to come clean and confirm they will continue funding the expanded FairPlay voucher scheme.”
