3,700 new homes for the region

LNP's Audacity on North Harbour: Claiming Credit for Labor's Long-Term Vision

It takes some cheek for the LNP to show up after the fact and try to take credit for a project they’ve spent years obstructing. That’s exactly what we’re seeing with the North Harbour Priority Development Area (PDA) at Burpengary East.

Let’s set the record straight.

This PDA is no overnight miracle. It is the product of years of planning, policy development, and negotiation under successive Labor governments. The North Harbour project, including the marina precinct and residential development, has always been part of Labor’s long-term plan to unlock housing supply and create jobs in one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions.

The LNP’s sudden fanfare over a proposal to “cut red tape” is not only misleading—it’s rewriting history.

Labor’s Legacy in Housing and Infrastructure

The North Harbour PDA builds on foundations laid down under Labor’s Regional Economic Development Strategy and our strong focus on planning for growth in Moreton Bay. It’s Labor that funded the enabling infrastructure, engaged stakeholders, and built the frameworks through Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) to ensure the project could move forward.

And let’s not forget: the broader North Harbour precinct already houses over 3,000 residents thanks to Labor’s vision. The new PDA simply extends that legacy.

What the LNP calls “Labor’s Housing Crisis” is a crisis they are choosing to politicise, rather than resolve constructively. Labor governments have delivered thousands of homes across Queensland and unlocked development in places like Caboolture West, Caloundra South, Ripley Valley, and Yarrabilba. North Harbour is just the next chapter in that work.

The LNP’s Real Record: Delay, Denial, and Division

For the LNP to now paint themselves as the saviours of local housing supply—after opposing urban expansion, blocking density increases, and cutting investment in infrastructure—is breathtaking hypocrisy.

During their last term in government, the LNP slashed housing budgets, privatised public assets, and did everything they could to slow down public-led development. Their track record on housing affordability and planning is not one of delivery—it’s one of dismantling.

Now they’re trying to pass off Labor’s hard work as their own. Queenslanders deserve better than political spin. They deserve honesty.

Our Community Deserves Real Solutions—Not Political Opportunism

As the local Member for Morayfield, I know how important this project is to our community. It means homes for families, jobs for tradies, and a stronger local economy anchored by marine and tourism industries.

That’s why I fought for it under Labor—and why I’ll continue to hold this new government accountable for delivering on Labor’s commitments. Because what matters to me isn’t who cuts the ribbon. It’s whether our community gets what it needs.

Let’s call this what it is: the LNP trying to wear Labor’s jersey while tearing up the rulebook behind the scenes.

Queenslanders see through it. And I’ll keep standing up to make sure our region gets a fair go — not a political con job.
