Mark Ryan MP – State Member for Morayfield

The introduction of 50 cent public transport fares was a game-changer - an initiative of the former Labor Government that proved one thing beyond doubt: make it affordable, and people will use it.

Across Morayfield, Bellmere, Caboolture, Caboolture South, and Burpengary, thousands of locals embraced public transport for the first time in years. But as Mark Ryan MP points out, affordability is only part of the solution.

Locals are telling me loud and clear: a cheap fare isn’t much use if the service doesn’t turn up, doesn’t run often enough, or doesn’t go where you need it to,” Mr Ryan said.

With the Moreton Bay region expected to welcome another 150,000 people by 2031, Mr Ryan has called for urgent investment in public transport infrastructure to keep pace with rapid growth.

The former Labor Government took an important first step by making public transport more accessible,” Mr Ryan said. “Now it’s time for the new government to finish the job. That means investing in reliable, frequent and well-connected services—not just cheap tickets.”

Mr Ryan is urging residents to help shape the future of public transport in the area by completing a short community survey:

As the new government prepares its first state budget, this is the moment for the Caboolture-Morayfield community to speak up and demand its fair share,” Mr Ryan said.

Without better public transport, congestion will worsen, emissions will rise, and our region will be left behind while others move forward.”

Mr Ryan said he would use the results of the survey to advocate for urgent upgrades and expansions to local bus and rail services.

I know how important these services are for working families, young people, seniors, and commuters alike. If you’ve ever struggled with unreliable timetables, long waits, or a lack of connections—this is your chance to have your say.”
