Excitement reigned at Caboolture Special School as the school community celebrated the official opening of their new Community Specialist Trades Skills Centre last week.
State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP, was on hand to officially open the Centre and said that it was the culmination of many years hard work to bring it to life.
"This is a terrific facility and I’m so pleased to see how well it has turned out," Mr Ryan said.
"This Centre will boost the education and future employment prospects of students from Caboolture Special School, and other local schools, as they look forward to life beyond the school gates.
"It’s vitally important that we provide opportunities for all young people to develop the skills they need to access jobs and this is especially true for students with a disability, who can face obstacles in finding meaningful and fulfilling employment.
"I know our community needs more jobs and more job opportunities and this Trades Skills Centre will help to empower our local young people with the skills they need to find employment."
The Trades Skills Centre was jointly funded by the Federal and State Governments, with the Federal contribution of $600,000 committed in 2013 (under the previous Federal Labor Government) and the State contribution of $620,000 funded from the 2015-16 State Budget (under the current State Labor Government).
The Centre offers students Certificate I and Certificate II qualifications.
