State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP, has welcomed the announcement this week that a new bed-based extended treatment and rehabilitation facility for young people will be built on the north side at The Prince Charles Hospital.
"I think most Queenslanders were rightly horrified by the Newman-Nicholls LNP Government’s reckless decision to close the Barrett Adolescent Centre. It was a poor decision that had tragic consequences," Mr Ryan said.
"This new facility is an important part of our broader plan that will support at-risk local adolescents in the most appropriate way.
"I am very proud to be part of a government that listens and gets on with the job of getting people the help that they need."
The new facility was recommended by the Commission of Inquiry into the Barrett Adolescent Centre and will be funded by the Palaszczuk Labor Government. Construction will begin in 2017.
