Cyclists across the state will enjoy safer, more connected infrastructure following a $17.5 million boost to Queensland’s cycle network.
Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said Moreton Bay Regional Council had been awarded funding for a cycling infrastructure project in Morayfield.
"The Palaszczuk Government is committed to investing in cycling infrastructure to make it easier and safer for more people to ride bikes across Queensland," Mr Bailey said.
"26 councils have been successful in receiving funding for 58 infrastructure projects as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants.
"The 2016-17 round of cycle grants will build almost 50km of cycling infrastructure across Queensland."
State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP, said local cyclists would benefit from the safer and improved infrastructure.
"A new 1.8 to 2 metre bike lane will be constructed along Buchanan Road from Visentin Road up to Devine Court," Mr Ryan said.
"The project will also include drainage works, green treatment and signage and is jointly funded by the Queensland Government and the Moreton Bay Regional Council."
Work on the latest round of projects is expected to start progressively throughout 2016 and 2017.
