Senior students at Caboolture Special School welcomed some very special guests to their assembly last Thursday, when State Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan joined representatives from the Vietnam Veterans Association Caboolture Sub-Branch to present Trooper Bert Jones the Light Horse Bear.
The gift of Trooper Jones – resplendent in his WWI Light Horse uniform - was designed to help Caboolture Special School students learn about the First World War, in the context of this week’s ANZAC Day commemorations, and the centenary of the end of the war later this year.
“I had a fantastic morning at Caboolture Special School, along with Bruce and Elfie Cox, and Trevor Rackley, from the Vietnam Veterans Association,” Mr Ryan said.
“The kids really embraced the presentation of Trooper Bert Jones the Great War Bear.
“I can’t wait to go back to the school in a few months to hear what the students have learned about the First World War.”
Trooper Bert Jones wears the colour patch of the Fifth Light Horse Regiment, which was raised in Queensland in September 1914 and fought at Gallipoli and then with the ANZAC Mounted Division in the Middle East.
