People in our region are being encouraged to get involved in the state’s inaugural Queensland Youth Week, to celebrate the enormous contributions young people make to their local community.
State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan, said young people aged 12-25 years make a huge contribution to the Caboolture/Morayfield area, and this was the perfect opportunity to recognise it.
"Queensland Youth Week is an opportunity for all of us to celebrate the many and varied contributions of young people to our area – culturally, socially and economically," he said.
"The theme this year ‘Jump in. Make a splash’ is all about getting our young people to voice their opinions and get out there and make a difference.
"The week will run from 6 to 15 April, and I’d encourage locals to jump on the Youth Week page on the Queensland Government website to see how they can get involved."
As part of Queensland’s inaugural Queensland Youth Week, Minister for Youth, the Honourable Di Farmer MP said a safe online space has been developed so that young people can connect directly with the State Government and their own peers.
"The Queensland Youth Engagement Hub is an online platform that young people can use to have their say on what matters most to them," she said.
"The hub will come alive with a range of activities in the lead up to Youth Week and the ideas and opinions that young people share on the platform will contribute directly to government planning and decision-making."
Ms Farmer said as part of the week the Queensland Government will be promoting ways to tackle cyberbullying.
"We know cyberbullying has devastating effects on young lives and on families," she said.
"I’m really proud to be part of a government that is committed to tackling cyberbullying head on, and this will form a part of our activities during Queensland Youth Week."
