Residents are being encouraged to submit their ideas for a new ten year housing strategy for Queensland.
State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP, said the Queensland Labor Government was in the process of creating a new housing strategy that works for every Queenslander.
“We want this strategy to be a comprehensive plan for all areas of the housing sector, from homelessness, social housing and housing affordability, right through to rental and investor markets and options for secure retirement,” Mr Ryan said.
“Every Queenslander has a stake in housing, which is why it is so important that we hear the ideas of everyday people.”
Minister for Housing and Public Works, Hon. Mick de Brenni MP, said the Queensland Government wants to hear from a wide range of Queenslanders all across the state.
“Every single Queenslander has the right to a safe, secure and affordable place to call home.
“Whether you’re a home owner, private renter, social or public housing tenant, investor, builder, financier or real estate agent, this is about coming up with innovative ideas to address real issues and solve real problems.
“It’s also about getting the basics right, so that the housing opportunities we enjoy today are available for the next generations.
“We want to know what is working and what isn’t, and your ideas on how we can work together for a stronger housing future in Queensland.
“To help get you started we have launched a discussion paper called ‘Working together for better housing and sustainable communities.’ The discussion paper looks at how we can build sustainable communities, create a more responsive housing system and tackle housing affordability.”
Submissions can be made through the Queensland Government Get Involved website: www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au
A series of face-to-face forums will be run by the Department of Housing and Public Works, as well as industry groups and community organisations. Information on these events can be found at: www.hpw.qld.gov.au
Consultation on the discussion paper will close at 5pm on 20 May 2016.
