Local non-for-profit organisations across the Morayfield State Electorate continue to receive welcomed boosts from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF).

State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP, said that the grants help community groups and sporting clubs to fund projects and programs in the local area.

“The Gambling Community Benefit Fund is one of Queensland’s largest one-off grant program, contributing $52.5 million to groups last year,” said Mr Ryan.  

“In this round, the committee was particularly focused on funding community groups in need of facility upgrades and equipment,” Mr Ryan said.

The Burpengary Cricket Association was one of the many organisations across Queensland to benefit, with a grant of $5,000 for the purchase of new covers for the club’s pitch.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Training and Skills, Yvette D’Ath said the GCBF, as the single statewide government funding program, distributed one-off grants of up to $35,000 (inclusive of GST) from gambling taxes to not-for-profit community groups across Queensland on a quarterly basis.

“Each year, about $53 million is directly returned to groups and clubs to develop and implement a range of projects which benefit their local communities,” Mrs D’Ath said.

“The GCBF committee received an overwhelming number of applications, and while not all were able to be funded in round 88, eligible groups are still encouraged to apply for funding in future rounds.

“The next round will open in mid-July and close on 31 August 2016.”
