Local toy drive to make huge donation of Christmas gifts to kids in care

26 November 2019

State Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan is celebrating that this year’s “Drive for Kids in Care” toy drive will make one of Queensland’s single largest donations of Christmas gifts to kids in foster and hospital care.

The Drive for Kids in Care appeal culminates in the official hand over of toys to the Department of Child Safety, at the Morayfield Shopping on Saturday 7 December.

The handover will be part of a day of activity at Morayfield Shopping Centre, including a huge car display, jumping castle, face painting and much more.

“The Morayfield and Caboolture community should be so proud of its efforts this year, with record donations meaning our local kids in care will get a real boost to their spirits this Christmas,” Mr Ryan said.

“Christmas can be a difficult time for children and young people who live in care.

“And for carers there is added financial strain at this time of year.

“Drive for Kids in Care is all about our community joining together to support our kids and carers with loving donations.”

2019 marks the tenth anniversary of our local Drive for Kids in Care, when Mark Ryan joined with local champion Michelle Rigger with an idea of collecting and donating gifts for kids in foster care.

Over the past decade the toy drive has gone from strength to strength, with a record number of local businesses and organisations giving generously to the cause this year.

The fun kicks off at 9am on Saturday, 7 December at Morayfield Shopping Centre. The car show will be displayed on the Upper South and Upper West car parks, with entrants donating a toy as their entry fee.
