Mums and Dads in the Caboolture region will be able to access a world-leading parenting and family support program as part of a $6.6 million investment over two years in this year’s Queensland State Budget.
State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP, welcomed the news that the Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) would be made available for free to all Queensland parents.
“Parenting is a tough job and everyone needs a helping hand from time to time. Triple P will help parents who are facing challenges at any stage of their child’s life,” Mr Ryan said.
“Triple P gives parents simple, practical tips to help cope with the everyday challenges of parenting. From toddler tantrums, self-esteem issues, bedtime battles, disobedience and aggression right up to bullying or teenage rebellion.
“Parents who use Triple P say they feel more confident about parenting and feel less stress.
“I look forward to increasing opportunities for local parents to access this world-leading program.”
The two year trial will give families voluntary access to a range of programs including an online program, topic-specific seminars, parent discussion groups and one-on-one consultations, through to more intensive, small group-based and individual programs.
Triple P is a Queensland success story that has been exported to help millions of families in 25 countries.
The program will be free online by the end of July, with a series of community seminars starting from September and training for providers gradually rolled out across the state.
The program aims to help up to 140,000 parents over the two years and will train and give new skills to practitioners already working in the field at both government and non-government organisations.
Parents who want to register their interest to access Triple P can log on to www.triplep-parenting.net.au/ or call Triple P on 07 3236 1212.
