An additional $17 million is up for grabs for local sporting clubs and recreation groups to build new infrastructure or upgrade existing facilities across Queensland.
State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP, has encouraged local sporting clubs and the Moreton Bay Regional Council to get in quick to secure their share of the fund, which now totals $40 million.
“Local clubs and recreation groups can apply for infrastructure funding grants of between $300,000 and $1.5 million from the Get Playing Plus program,” Mr Ryan said.
“Treasurer Curtis Pitt approved this additional funding after seeing the impressive array of projects put forward by Councils and organisations right around Queensland during the registration of interest process.
“So now I want to see as much of that investment as possible coming here to Moreton Bay.
“The $17 million funding boost means we expect to be able to support as many as 50 new infrastructure projects and expansions across the state, so now is the time for local clubs and association to act.
“The more local clubs that apply, the more chances we have of seeing new projects get off the ground in Moreton Bay.
“These projects are often big-ticket infrastructure upgrades, such as lighting or building improvements which can really make a difference in driving sports participation in our community.”
Mr Ryan said the $17 million injection of additional funds took the total funding pool to $40 million.
“I want more local families to have access to a wider range of quality local sporting and active recreation infrastructure,” Mr Ryan said.
“We know that Moreton Bay’s lifestyle is the envy of Queensland, so I’m keen to support the construction of infrastructure that will help more people get outdoors and stay active.”
