Holiday makeover for local schools

24 January 2017

While Caboolture state school students and teachers have been enjoying a well-earned break, local tradies have been hard at work upgrading and expanding local schools ready for 2017.

State Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan said the work was part of the Palaszczuk Government’s record $667 million school infrastructure program.

Mr Ryan said local schools would share in more than $610,000 for improvements to classrooms and other facilities.

"We want our state school students to have the best-possible classrooms to make the most of their education," he said.

Mr Ryan said work done on local schools during the holidays included:

  • $104,000 for Narangba Valley State School for additional classrooms and two relocatable buildings;

  • $45,000 for Narangba Valley State High School repainting, repairing walls and replacing damaged concrete;

  • $35,000 for Caboolture Special School to refurbish disabled toilets;

  • $45,000 for Caboolture East State School for two relocatable buildings, replacing roof sheet and gutters;

  • $194,000 for Caboolture State High School to refurbish the manual arts block, upgrade the gym, install security fence, replace carpet and replace veranda boards; and

  • $90,000 for Bribie Island State High School to replace roofs and insulation for Blocks A & G.

State Member for Pumicestone Rick Williams said when students and teachers return to school this week they will notice a big difference.

"This work was completed during the school holidays to ensure as little disruption as possible to classes.

"We are committed to ensuring that every child has access to a quality education and that includes quality school facilities."

Mr Williams said the Palaszczuk Government was committed to catering for enrolment growth at schools in Caboolture.

"We will always provide the classrooms our schools need to provide a quality education to all students," he said.

"The Palaszczuk Government is not only building better schools in Caboolture we are also providing valuable jobs for tradies and training opportunities for apprentices.

"Our investment in new school classrooms and maintenance is supporting thousands of jobs for tradies and suppliers around the state.
