Funding boost helps locals get NDIS ready

People with disability living in the Caboolture area will benefit from a statewide $2.8 million funding boost, to help them prepare for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP, said the Queensland Government had committed $9.4 million in funding to 11 community organisations to deliver readiness activities across the state to help Queenslanders prepare.

“The NDIS is the biggest social reform since Medicare was introduced 40 years ago and it’s essential that people in our community are prepared for this major change,” Mr Ryan said.

“These activities were originally scheduled to finish in December, but the Government has allocated an extra $2.8 million to keep these activities running.

“This additional funding will also support a new organisation, AMPARA Advocacy, who will deliver readiness activities to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

“The Government has been working consistently with the disability sector to provide readiness activities that make sure people with disability, their families, carers, the sector and the community are prepared.

“The NDIS will create a massive boost to Queensland’s economy, injecting more than $4 billion every year and creating jobs in a diverse and growing disability sector.

“These forums, workshops and activities provide local people with disability the chance to start thinking about how they want to live their lives now and into the future.”

Participant readiness events supported by the Queensland Government are occurring alongside many local and community events throughout Queensland that will support the transition to the NDIS.

Mr Ryan said that an online Queensland NDIS calendar was a great way to find out about local events.

“The online calendar connects Queenslanders with disability, their families and carers, businesses and providers with NDIS-related events across the state, including participant readiness workshops and forums,” Mr Ryan said.
