State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan, today announced a $28.8 million investment by the Queensland Government in safety improvements at seventeen locations along Morayfield Road and Beerburrum Road.

Mr Ryan said these much needed improvements would be funded through the government’s Targeted Road Safety Program.

“Morayfield Road and Beerburrum Road are two of the busiest roads in our local area,” he said.

“Unfortunately a number of crashes have been reported at intersections along these two roads, identifying them as requiring multiple safety upgrades.

“Design work has started on these projects, with construction expected to commence this year.

“The first section I can announce is the area between Torrens Road and Market Drive on Morayfield Road, including the dangerous right turn from Jacaranda Avenue, which will receive traffic lights.”

Local business owner Leigh Chippendale has long advocated for traffic signals at the Jacaranda Avenue intersection.

“I am very happy to see that there will be traffic lights installed at this intersection,” Mrs Chippendale said. 

“I formally contacted Mark in relation to the ever-increasing amount of traffic accidents which occur on this part of Morayfield Road.

“As a business owner in this location, my staff and I regularly see accidents occur. 

“Hopefully with the installation of traffic lights, there should be a significant reduction in the number of accidents.

Mr Ryan said these very important local road works would also contribute to the Government’s state-wide goal of reducing road accident-related fatalities and hospital admissions – as outlined in the Queensland Road Safety Strategy (2015-21).
